Highland got off to a quick start and never trailed in defeating the Carl Sandburg College women’s basketball team 80-43 on Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium, the Chargers’ first game in 14 days.
KEY MOMENTS
- Highland (8-3) raced to a 9-0 lead in the first 4½ minutes while holding the Chargers (0-3) scoreless until the 5:10 mark of the opening quarter.
- Sandburg got within 24-17 on a 3-pointer from Addison Eger (Mendon, Ill./Unity) with 2:15 before halftime, but the Cougars closed with 10 of the final 13 points of the half, capped by Emily Mandamin’s 25-foot trey at the buzzer.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Eger finished with 11 points for the Chargers while also grabbing five rebounds and picking up a pair of steals.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
Sophomore Annie McKim (Yates City, Ill./homeschooled) had 11 rebounds, with six coming on the offensive glass.
